VVVVVV sold at the Child's Play auction

I've found out via @terrycavanagh that @ChevyRay bought my VVVVVV painting at the Child's Play auction for $200! I'm thrilled about this, as soon as I find out what the other paintings sold for, I'll post both here and on Twitter @canvasandpaints.

here it is, in case you've missed it:

Assassin's Creed pencil outline

I've made a start on the Assassin's Creed painting, here's the pencil outline:

Yet another picture with challenging perspectives! After having done the Mirror's Edge painting, I feel a lot more confident about building lines, and I've managed to fins a much higher resolution image to work from, so the detail should be a bit easier than I first thought.

Thank you, Patrick!

Thanks, Patrick for picking up Hitman exactly when you said you would, I really appreciate it!

I now need to go and buy more wrapping paper - I'm glad you didn't mind the Christmas-themed paper.

Assassin's Creed

Its been a while since I posted anything - I've been ill and unable to paint. I'm starting to feel better, so I thought I'd post what I'll be painting next - its from Assassin's Creed, and is a screen shot looking out over Jerusalem:

I think this is a beautiful image, and hope I can do it real justice. I'm hoping to start drawing it tomorrow.

VVVVVV is finished

I've spent all day painting spikes, til my eyes crossed and I had to have a break! I've finished, though, and thankfully before I lost the daylight - I hate painting in artificial light, as I struggle to match colours I've already done in daylight.

So, here it is; I came, I saw, I conquered:

This was fun to do, although the spikes may give me nightmares tonight! Its off to Seattle in the morning for the Child's Play auction in December.

VVVVVV background finished

I've taken today off work as i have to work on Friday, so I decided to crack on with VVVVVV.

I've finished the background colours, and now have to decide what to do about the stripes. Once I've decided that, I'll be painting on the spikes - dreading that: there's so many of them and they need to be accurate. I've even thought about making a stencil, but that's cheating!

Anyway, here's the background done:

Whole thing:

Top, slightly chopped off (whoops):

Bottom half:

I'm going to play around with lining on some scrap paper before I decide about the lines, then its the spikes!!!

Sunday 13 November 2011

Background of VVVVVV started

I've started colour blocking the background to Veni, Vidi, Vici in. I've not yet decided about the stripes - they are incredibly fine, and I may well end up inking them in instead of painting them, I'll have to see.

Here it is so far:

Saturday 12 November 2011

VVVVVV started

I totally forgot to post the pencil outline of this! Thanks go to LewieP from savygamer for playing the game to get the screen shots I needed, and thanks to Terry Cavanagh (the dev) for giving me permission to paint it!

Here's the source image I'm working from:

I forgot to take a picture of the pencil outline (oops) so here it is with the black part already started:

And yes, that's the messy painting area I work in!

Here's the whole thing so far:

Just to give you an idea of the scale, really, as its such a tall image compared to its width.

Professor Layton and the Last Spectre is finished

Well, I completed the inking in last night, and so now its ready to be packed to go to Seattle, I just have to buy some more polystyrene to wrap in in.

Here's the whole thing:

Professor Layton and the Last Spectre almost done

I've painted again today - I'm trying to finish this so I can post it tomorrow, as it has to reach Seattle before 8th December.

Here's where I'm up to :

And here's the figures painted in:

I'm planning on doing the inking in this evening, so I can post it off to Seattle in the morning.

If I do get it done, I'll upload another image.

More Prof. Layton and the Last Spectre done

I've painted a bit more of Prof. Layton. I'm trying to get this one done before the weekend so I can post it off to Seattle in time for the Child's Play auction on December 8th.

Here's the whole thing;

And a close-up:

I'll post more tomorrow.

Wednesday 9 November 2011

Professor Layton and the Last Spectre buildings started

I've had some time to paint this afternoon, so I've made a start on the buildings. More will follow tomorrow!

Thursday 3 November 2011

Hitman is finished

As I promised myself, I spent this morning painting, and I've finished Hitman. It was raining, so I couldn't go outside to take photos, so I've taken 3 with flash, and 3 without, see which you prefer.

The whole thing:

Then again, but without the flash:

Once its thoroughly dry, I'll be sending it off to Patrick.

Hitman almost complete

Yes! I've got my camera working again!!!

I took it to Jessop's, and the very lovely man there told me I'd been using the wrong type of battery - for the last 5 years! I was using AA, but I apparently needed AA with a wrap around to stop them moving about in the camera - £12.50 later I have a fully functioning camera.

This means I can update Hitman!

The flash has bounced all over the back of his jacket - I'll try to take an outdoors shot tomorrow if its not raining.

I expect I'll finish this tomorrow, as all I have left to do is the traffic to the right of Hitman and the railings.

Saturday 29 October 2011

Hitman almost done

I've finally finished all the windows, and celebrated by painting the smoky bits! I've been itching to do them for a while, now. My camera still won't work, so its off to the camera shop tomorrow to see if it can be fixed, otherwise, guess what I'll be asking for for Christmas?

Here's a few shots of what I've done:

And here it is on the right:

And on the left:

I'm hoping to finish it in the next couple of days.

Professor Layton and the Last Spectre sky done

Again, further apologies for the use of my I-phone camera! I love drawing and painting Professor Layton images, even more than I like playing the games. I'm looking forward to this one coming out in the UK.

Here's the sky done:

I'll do some more over the weekend.

Thursday 27 October 2011

Hitman background continues

OK, first let me apologise: my camera, the trusty Kodak I've owned for years has suddenly decided not to take photos any more. I've replaced the batteries, taken out the SD card, tried all sorts, but it won't work. I've had to use my I-phone to take pictures. I'm sorry, I know they will be blurry, and low def, but its the best I can think of right now!

Any way, with that apology over, here's the second one: yesterday, I took my mum on an epic train journey around the north of England - it was for her birthday. Somehow, I damaged my right index finger, and currently can't bend or straighten it at all without horrid pain - its swollen and immobile. That has meant I have only been able to paint colour blocks, as I don't have sufficient fine motor control for detailed work. I've done most of the background of Hitman now, with the details to do, hopefully tomorrow if my finger is OK.

Phew, two apologies in one post!

Any way, here's a couple of blurry shots of where I'm up to:

I hadn't noticed in the past how rubbish the camera is in my phone, I'll try to get my camera sorted out as soon as I can!

Here's a close-up:

Thursday 20 October 2011

Professor Layton and the Last Spectre inked in

So, I've carried on with the Professor Layton picture, doing the inking in. I prefer doing this straight after the pencil outline - I know I often have to repeat it when I've finished painting it, but I really like the definition it gives me. I use a Uniball fine permanent liner, as I like the sharp edge it gives.

I love drawing/painting the Professor Layton images - specially after having a challenging time, there's something about this style that leaves me feeling much calmer.

Here's where I'm up to :

I'll be doing some more of Hitman next, then I'll start painting this.

Wednesday 19 October 2011

Professor Layton and the Last Spectre

So, after being made a football widow tonight, I decided to start this for the Child's Play auction on December 8th. I can't paint in artificial light, as I've discovered to my cost, as I can't colour match effectively, so Hitman will have to wait for daylight.

I love the Professor Layton games - puzzle games in general, actually - and the Layton paintings I've done for Child's Play sell really well. It makes me chuckle how the US releases always have a different title to the UK releases - at least the box art is the same, though.

Here's the source image:

And here's my pencil outline:

I'll start painting it once I've done some more of Hitman.

Friday 14 October 2011

Final Fantasy VII finally finished!

Here it is, finally done! It will be heading over to Boston some time in the next couple of days.

Hitman continues

I've been working on Hitman today as well, and have got some more of the buildings done. One looks suspiciously like a TARDIS!

I'm aiming to get some more done over the weekend.
